2021 International Symposium on Chemical and Biological Sciences

On behalf of the organizing committee of 2021 International Symposium on  Chemical and Biological Sciences, we are delighted to invite you to attended the ISCBS 2021, co-sponsored by  Chinese Chemical Society and Royal Australian Chemical InstituteThe event will take place on 16-17th, Oct, 2021, Wuhan, China. This major international event in the field of chemical biology will bring together leading scientists, comprising two keynote speakers (Prof. Nazneen Aziz, Prof. Jian Feng Chen,  Prof. Dionisios G. Vlachos and Prof Ji-Huan He), who will collectively cover topics around the engineering of proteins and small molecules, chemogenetic and optogenetic technologies for probing molecular and cellular interactions, technologies to probe active molecules in their native environment, etc. The 2021 conference will feature world-class presentations by internationally renowned speakers, cutting-edge session topics and provide a fantastic opportunity to network with like-minded professionals from around the world.

The aim of this international event is to learn more about the latest advances in the field of chemical biology and to foster an open and dynamic dialogue among the scientists conducting this exciting research.

Plenary Speakers

Qing Yang

Huazhong University of Science and Technology, China

Dr Qing Yang is a full professor in School of Energy and Power Engineering, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. She is specialized in energy policy based on systems accounting for renewable energies and carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies. She has been devoted to the experimental study of the mechanism of biomass advanced thermal conversion technologies-biomass torrefaction and pyrolysis, combined with reflections and feedbacks from systems accounting. Her group’s novel poly-generation biomass pyrolysis demonstration plant has gained international attention and a “Blue Sky Award” by United Nations Industrial Development Organization.

She is the editor of Energy Nexus, an Open Access journal by Elsevier (Mar. 2021-present), the guest editor of Processes, SCI journal (Oct, 2019-present), the editor membership of Open Journal, Energy Efficiency (Oct, 2012-2014), the reviewer for Energy Policy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Journal of Cleaner Production, Process Safety and Environmental Protection, etc (Oct, 2011-present)

With more than 70 papers been published in prestigious SCI journals, such as Nature Communications, Nature Sustainability, PNAS and so on, including 4 highly-cited papers and 1 hot paper by ESI, and 1 paper ranking Top25 hottest papers by Elsevier, her total citation is 2165 by google scholar, with a H index of 28. And also serve as peer reviewer for prestigious international journals, while have reviewed more than 100 journal papers and provided useful comments for them.

Ji-Huan He

College of Textile and Engineering, Soochow University, China

Ji-Huan He is a full professor in National Engineering Laboratory for Modern Silk, College of Textile and Engineering, Soochow University, Suzhou, China, and  is an expert on nonlinear science, nanotechnology, surface chemistry and biomechanics, he is the owner of some famous analytical methods, such as the semi-inverse method, the variational iteration method, the homotopy perturbation method, the exp-function method, and He’s frequency formulation. The coupled method of the homotopy perturbation method and Laplace transform is called as He-Laplace method in literature. Dr. He is also the owner of the bubble electrospinning, which is the potential technology for mass-production of various functional nanofibers. The macromolecular electrospinning proposed by Ji-Huan He and his student can well control the macromolecular orientation in a nanofiber. His geometric potential theory can explain well many boundary-induced phenomena, e.g., super-hydrophobicity and selective absorption. His two-scale thermodynamics and two scale mathematics (fractal calculus) view any a phenomenon in two different scales, in a large scale the continuum assumption works, while in a smaller scale, saying a molecule size, discontinuous phenomena occur, and the fractal calculus has to be adopted. He has published more than 400 articles with an h-index of 67, and he has been listed as a highly cited researcher by Clarivate Analytics and Elsevier for many years, and was also one of the World's Hottest Researchers. 




Nazneen Aziz

Chief Scientific Officer, Avellino Lab, USA

Nazneen Aziz, Ph.D. is an entrepreneur and an expert in the implementation of genomics into clinical practice. She is the Research Professor in the School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University and a Professor in the Department of Child Health at University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is on the steering committee and is chair of the nomination committee for the Board of Advisors at Arizona State University’s Health Futures Council, on the Board of Directors for Arizona Biosciences Organization (AZBio), and on the Board of Overseers at Marine Biological Laboratories/University of Chicago. In her prior positions, Dr. Aziz served as Vice President of Research and Development at Interleukin Genetics; and Director of Translational Research at Novartis Institute of Biomedical Research. Prior to joining the biotechnology industry, Dr. Aziz was an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School and Boston Children’s Hospital, where she discovered and characterized the function of a new gene implicated in the development defects of recessive polycystic kidney disease.

Dr. Aziz received her Ph.D. in molecular genetics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where her doctoral research resulted in the discovery that sequence motifs in the 5’ untranslated regions of mRNAs can regulate their translation. She received her MS in biochemistry at MIT and her BA (Honors) in Biological Sciences from Wellesley College. She has several issued and pending patents. Her publications have been cited extensively in the medical and scientific literature.

Jian Feng Chen

Dean, College of Chemical Engineering Beijing University of Chemical Technology, China

Jian-Feng Chen is Member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dean of College of Chemical Engineering at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. He is also Director of State Key Laboratory of Organic-Inorganic Composites and Director of Research Center of the Ministry of Education for High Gravity Engineering and Technology. Prof. Chen received a BSc degree and a PhD degree from Zhejiang University in Chemical Engineering in 1986 and 1992, respectively. He finished his postdoctoral research in Zhejiang University in 1994, and then joined Beijing University of Chemical Technology as an Associate Professor and a Full Professor in 1997. Prof. Chen was a visiting full professor at Case Western Reserve University, USA from 1997 to 1998 and a Research Professor in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore from 1999 to 2000. He has received many awards including Cheung Kong Distinguished Professor (2002), National Science Foundation Prize for Distinguished Young Scholars (2003), Leading Scientist of National High-level Personnel of Special Support Program (2012). Moreover, Prof. Chen served as the Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Chemical Engineering of China, Vice-Chairman of Chinese Particuology Society; Panel Committee Chair of National “863” Program for Nanomaterials and Nanodevices technology; and Associate Editor/Editorial Board Member of several international journals such as Industrial & Engineering Chemistry Research (ACS), Particuology (Elsevier), Chemical Engineering & Technology (Wiley), The Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering (Wiley), Reaction Chemistry & Engineering (RSC).


Dionisios G. Vlachos

Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware, U.S.A

Dionisios G. Vlachos is the Unidel Dan Rich Chair in Energy Professor of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering, a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Delaware, the Director of the University of Delaware Energy Institute (UDEI), of the UD node of the manufacturing institute RAPID, and the Catalysis Center for Energy Innovation (CCEI), an Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC). He is the ExxonMobil Visiting Chair Professor, National University of Singapore, Singapore, 2018-2021. Professor Vlachos is the winner of the 2020 Irving Wender Award for Excellence in Catalysis from the Pittsburgh-Cleveland Catalysis Society, the 2016 Catalysis Club of Philadelphia Award, the R. H. Wilhelm Award in Chemical Reaction Engineering from AIChE (2011) and is an AAAS Fellow (since 2009). He also received an NSF Career Award and an Office of Naval Research Young Investigator Award.

Vlachos’ research focuses on circular economy and waste derivatization, multiscale modeling and simulation, distributed (bio)chemical manufacturing, process intensification and novel catalytic reactors, renewable fuels and chemicals, catalyst informatics and in silico materials prediction, and kinetic modeling.

He is the corresponding author of more than 430 refereed publications, >26,600 citations. Professor Vlachos has served as an executive editor of the Chemical Engineering Science journal and served on the editorial advisory board of ACS Catalysis, Reaction Chemistry & Engineering, Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Research, Applied Catalysis A: General, and others.
